Advanced Placement Statistics

This will be my third year teaching AP Statistics at Glen Cove. I love statistics and what can be learned by the study of statistics. The AP level course will be a serious class. We will focus on the meaning behind the numbers. This will involve a lot more than just finding the answer. It will involve understanding the whole problem, the methods used, the results and the interpretations of the results.

The Advanced Placement course in Statistics follows the course outline provided by the College Board. The course is designed around the college level semester study of statistics and applications of statistics. There will be an Advanced Placement Statistics test on May 8, 2002 in the afternoon where the student can score from 1-5 and potentially earn up to 3 credits in college for statistics. In 2000 there were 53.7% of the students nationwide scored a 3 or better. AT Glen Cove we had 81.8% score a 3 or better. In 2001 there were 59.6% of the students nationwide scored a 3 or better. At Glen Cove we had 66.6% score a 3 or better. Most colleges will want a score of 3, 4 or 5. (An example - Boston University used to only accept 4 or 5 but last year took 3's. )Please check with the colleges as you apply for their standards. . . The exam is difficult and will require much focus and work from the students.
